Vipasana-The Meaning of Water

Water is the element that signifies the depths within us. In seeing silted sources we may then flow back into rhythm with ourselves. Our love is a sister of light.
Deftly, she unwinds

From underneath
she rips the knots,
the mass of algae dreams
unties and drops

And the reeds
woven to cover
fear of the deep,
drift and slip.

Lines of empty eyes
that caught and held
everything blindly,
surge and see.

Water
urges us
to fluency.

The human body is composed of 90% water. Without it nothing grows. Where there is no water everything is scorched and dry. Where there is water things grow and are green. Water is the difference between life and death.In sadness and suffering we express ourselves in the language of tears. And yet there is a great relief in tears, we release our burdens through them and great relief can be found. This release brings a sense of peace and balance.
 
Each one of us begins life in the water of the womb where there is is no inside/outside or self/others. To swim in a sense is to enter this womb like medium. To do this meditatively is to re-awaken that primal sense of belonging from the time before one’s individuality first broke free.
 
The metaphor of flowing water is very illuminating in bringing the dance of consciousness to expression.The waves move through the water but then leaves water as it is. No two waves ever curl the same way. The dance action is the fundamental way in which energy is transmitted in the world.
 
Our uniqueness is reflected in the water. This reflection is about us, and every other person and object in the world. An object or person can be reflected in so many different ways. Yet, the heart of an object or the essence of a heart cannot be reflected.All faith and creativity is the hunger to cross over this frontier. It is the desire for pure and total encounter and belonging. Love is an affair between reflection and it’s object.
